Jails and courts
Where they are held, and what to expect there
Every facility releases on its own timeline. Replace these rows with the jails and courthouses you post at most.
Finding someone in custody
Most county jails publish an inmate search online, and the booking desk will confirm a name by phone. Call us with what you have and we will locate the person, confirm the charge and the bail amount, and tell you what that facility's release usually looks like.
Why release times differ
A small municipal holding cell can release within an hour of the bond arriving. A large county facility processes releases in batches, and on a busy weekend night twelve hours is not unusual. None of that is in the agency's control, which is why we tell you the honest figure rather than the hopeful one.
